An unclaimed land in the Scottish isles is ruled by the male and female victors in a series of war games every five years. Named Chief and Lady of the land, they rule the vast holding, and protect the people by divine right, until the next game begins.
After her brother’s death Ceana is named laird. The only way for her clan to survive the ravages of the Highlands is to join in the war games. Bastard son of a powerful earl, Macrath is placed in the games by his vengeful stepmother. He must survive for the ultimate retribution.
Ceana can’t afford to like the formidable, captivating, Highlander who seems to be following her, and yet she can’t seem to walk away. Macrath wants nothing more than to protect the enchanting warrior lass, but doing so may get in the way of his need for revenge. What starts out as a race to survive turns into passion to endure together.
May the gods be forever in their favor…
It is my pleasure to welcome Eliza Knight, author of HIGHLAND HUNGER, to Room With Books!
Eliza, what do you do when you are not writing?
Catch up on life, lol. I have three little princesses, so we do a lot of family things together. I love to explore outside, hiking, walking, etc… I read a lot, too! I also like to binge-watch all the television series I missed while writing. And I’m currently doing a lot of working out to get back into shape (T-25, walking/running, and soon starting P90X3!)
Would you share any challenges you faced in getting your first book published?
I have always loved medieval romance. When I first started writing, I got very close to an offer with a NY Pub for my medieval romance series—set in England. But it came back from the marketing department that Regency and Scottish sold better. So I set the manuscript aside. I’d loved reading Regencies and Scottish romances, so they weren’t foreign to me. I switched historical eras/settings and my first story published was a short Scottish time-travel.
What was your first job?
My first job was as a babysitter. But when I was 15, I had the opportunity to work in a pediatrician’s office doing paperwork (my mom was the head-nurse there).
Was there any particular author or book that influenced you in any way growing up?
I loved to read the classics—Jane Eyre is one of my favs. But I also read Ken Follett, Margaret George, Julie Garwood and Jude Devereux.
If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
Ohhh… That’s a good question! Time-travel!!! I’d get some good research outta that! Plus, I’d get to see a bunch of braw Highlander’s J
Out of all of your characters, which is your favorite? What makes that character your favorite?
I have to say, my absolute favorite is Magnus from THE HIGHLANDER’S REWARD. There is just something about his strength, his loyalty, and the sweet side of him that makes me melt.
What does your writing schedule look like?
I write Monday-Friday, aiming for roughly 2500-3000 words a day. It’s a full-time job for me. I typically write for about 3-4 hours a day, the rest of the day is taken up with edits and the business side of writing.
Do you use your OWN experiences?
Every book has a little piece of me in it. Things I’ve said, heard, seen, done, people I’ve met, places I’ve been. But, it is all within context of the book. Its fiction after all 🙂
Was it easy to pick the title for your book?
Titles are so integral to the book, that I can’t actually start writing until I have one. They have to match perfectly. HIGHLAND HUNGER, was actually titled by my cover designer who was fleshing out the series with me. It matched perfectly because my heroine and hero are struggling for life, for place, for victory. They hunger for love, for acceptance, for strength. The subsequent books in the series are HIGHLAND SACRIFICE (Jan/2015) and HIGHLAND VICTORY (June/2015)
What one profession, other than author, would you choose now? Why does it appeal to you?
Hmmm… I think movie critic. I LOVE movies, and if I could watch them and analyze them and write about them, it would be awesome.
What are you currently working on?
I’m currently finishing up a novella—THE HIGHLANDER’S CHARM, part of my Stolen Bride series. Once I finish, I’ll be digging into the second book the Highland Wars series, HIGHLAND SACRIFICE.
What is your favorite flavor of ice cream? Chocolate peanut butter
Night owl, or early bird? Depends J On the weekends I’m a night owl, during the week I go to be early
Coffee or tea? Coffee
Roller Coasters or Water Rides? Water Rides
Swimming in the ocean or a pool? Pool—but I prefer to lounge by the beach
Walking or fitness club? Walking!
