The cops. The mob. The district attorney. Lethal Journey is an intricate and suspenseful thriller that offers an action packed thrill-ride with stunning revelations and a nail-biting conclusion!

I wasn’t very far into the story when I became so totally engrossed in my reading. I became absolutely riveted and couldn’t put it down! It was a process of reading and stopping to re-read . . . catching a different nuance every time I turned a page of Lethal Journey.

Lethal Journey is a short crime novel and a romantic thriller. The story of Lauren Taylor, Troy Granger, Gino Valdina, Eric Brennan and the indomitable Lucy is one that takes many twist, then a sudden turn to the right and will leave you guessing “who dunnit” every step of the way!

September 1997

Rain pounded down.

Lauren Taylor squinted through the windshield, a backwash of water battered the glass. She flicked the wipers on high and tightened her hands around the steering wheel. With a quick glance in the rear-view mirror she noticed headlights behind her. The vehicle appeared to speed up, fall back, and then speed up again.

Her muscles tensed. “That driver behind us seems to be in a big hurry.”

Her father leaned forward in the seat and peered into the side mirror. “He’s all over the road. Might be drunk or something.”

“He’s crazy driving like that in this weather. I’m letting him go by.” She downshifted the Jaguar and steered onto the side of the road and rolled to a stop.

As the van raced by. A giant wave of water pelted the side of the car.

Her father watched out the window. “Christ, he’s flying”

Taillights flickered and quickly faded ahead into the blackened night.

With a quick glimpse in the mirror, Lauren steered the car back onto the road, her grip relaxed around the wheel. “That’s better.”

Her father repositioned himself in the leather seat and stretched his legs. “The Law Society’s dinner is next week. You going?”

God, the dinner. She’d bought an expensive navy and white designer dress for the occasion and even toyed with the idea of having her hair cut into something more sophisticated and polished for a New York district attorney.

“I’ll have to check my schedule.”

“Not good enough. I want you there, Lauren. My chance to show you off. Do some bragging, big time.”

She couldn’t help but smile. “Okay, Dad. Okay.”

“And don’t forget to bring a date for protection. Don’t want a bunch of drunken seedy lawyers groping you on the dance floor. And by the way, I heard Eric was back in town.”

Her smile faded as she remembered the annual dinner years before. She’d never forgotten a single detail of that night—how Eric held her in his arms and how his mouth devoured her willing lips then pulled away and left her mouth burning for more…

“What else did you hear about him?” she blurted out.

“Not much. Can’t even remember where I heard the news. Thought you didn’t want to talk about Brennan?”

“I don’t. I just wondered when he got back.”

Her father’s jaw tightened. “Don’t know.” His voice turned hard. “Just heard he’s back.”

At one point in their relationship, Eric begged her to come with him and start a new life in Florida. She didn’t have the courage to leave her father and walk away from her job. Four years later, she was taking on the most important case of her career—prosecuting Gino Valdina, head of New York’s crime family, just like her father had done a decade before. But this time would be different. Gino Valdina wasn’t going to get away with murder.

The sky split and lightning lit the wet road. Lauren eyed the exit sign to Hyde Park.

The whining squeal of an engine roared from behind.

Lauren glanced over her shoulder. “God, that van is back.” She clicked on the turning signal and steered onto the off-ramp. Her eyes darted back to the side mirror.

Headlights swerved from side to side.

A shiver drove up her spine. She clutched the steering wheel.

“I’m calling the police.” Her father grabbed his cell phone out of the glove box and turned it on. “Damn it. I can’t get a signal.”

“Keep trying.”

The van’s driver gunned the engine.

The grill came into view, massive and powerful.

Close. Too close.

Metal connected and scraped against the bumper.

The van shoved the Jaguar ahead on the road.

High-beams from the other lane blinded her.

Lauren blinked and turned her head.

The van rammed the back of the car. Metal popped as the back window disintegrated into the back seat.

The seat belt snapped across her shoulder. Her head slammed back on the head rest then forward. “Oh my God!”

The cell phone flew from her father’s hand. “What the—”

Like a slingshot the Jaguar shot down the slick road.

Lauren slammed on the brakes.

The car slid a half circle and spun out of control. A massive tidal wave of water washed over the roof.

Her father clutched the dashboard with both hands. “The tree!”

She yanked the steering wheel hard to the left.

Wood splintered. Metal buckled, squealed and cracked. The air bag struck her body like a fist, and smacked her head against the side window. She pushed at it, viciously. With every move, fiery pain shot through her face and down her neck. The sickening sweet stench of gasoline and smoke filled her nostrils. Her head clouded.

Lauren heard her own voice, pinched and muffled, cry out. “Dad!” until her words drifted into silence.

Character Interview – Sebastian and Lucas

Patricia: So I am sitting down today with Sebastian Thorne from Mia Michelle’s new book, Rose of Thorne.  Thank you so much for joining me at Room With Books today, Sebastian. I expected Lucas Drake to join us as well, but it seems as if he’s not coming.

Sebastian:  Thank you for having me today.

Patricia: So, Sebastian, you are well known for your wealthy bachelor lifestyle.  You have dated many different women over the years. What makes Skylar Rose special?

Sebastian: Yes, it is true. I have had more than my fair share of beautiful women over the years. But no one, and I mean NO ONE, can compare to Skylar.  From the moment I laid eyes on her, I wanted her and only her. However, sometimes what we want isn’t the right thing.  Sometimes we have to tell ourselves ‘no’ to protect the other person.

Patricia: I see.  Well, can you elaborate on that last part? What does she need protecting from? Is she in some sort of danger?

Sebastian: I will never allow her to be in danger of anyone or anything ever again. When I say that, I am including myself.  If there is anyone she needs protecting from, it is me. I wish I could stay away, but I can’t seem to fight this incredible magnetic pull between us.  It is absolute torture seeing her everyday knowing that I can never have her.

Patricia: Why is that exactly?

Sebastian: She doesn’t really know the real me. No one does actually.  She deserves someone she can love and trust and I am simply not that man.  All I want is for her to be happy, even if that isn’t with me.

Patricia: I understand that Skylar has captured the attention of Lucas Drake, CEO & CFO of Drake Corporation.  How exactly are you handling the two of them dating?

Sebastian: I am well aware of Lucas’ interest in Skylar. He is an alright guy I guess, but Lucas is like me, he has quite the history of being a ladies man. I am not sure if I like the idea of him using Skylar that way. So my answer is no, I definitely don’t think that he is the right man for her.

Lucas: Oh really…and I suppose that you are implying that you are then?  Hello everyone, I apologize for my lateness. My flight home from New York was delayed because of the weather.

Patricia: Lucas! Thank you for joining Sebastian and me at Room With Books.  As you probably heard, I was just asking Sebastian about your interest in Skylar Rose.  Would you care to elaborate on your relationship with her?

Lucas: Let’s just say that Skylar has my complete and undivided attention and I plan on keeping it that way.  Don’t roll your eyes at me, Thorne!  Can I help it that you let her slip through your fingers? Not that you were any competition to me to begin with.

Sebastian: Don’t tell me that you have any serious intentions with her.  I know you all too well, my friend.  You don’t care about anyone, only pleasing yourself!

Lucas:  You have no idea what I feel for Skylar! Besides, aren’t you a fine one to talk?  If you care so much about her, then why did I see you leaving Driskill’s the other night with that blonde?  I bet you thought long and hard about Skylar then! You are one selfish, arrogant son of a bitch, you know that?

Patricia: Alright gentlemen, please. Mr. Thorne! Mr. Drake!  Please sit back down!

Lucas: I apologize for letting this get out of line here at the studio.  But Thorne, you better back off or I swear that I will take you down! You know I am not afraid of you! Skylar is mine now, not yours.

Sebastian:  Yours? Give me a break! You barely know each other and you act like you are already in love with her. She isn’t yours, Drake, and she never will be!

Lucas:  Really? I guess we’ll see about that, won’t we?

Sebastian: Yes, we will!  And then you’ll finally understand that she has always been and will always be mine.

Lucas: You asshole!  She will NEVER be yours!

Patricia: Lucas, I’m going to ask a question similar to the one I asked Sebastian earlier.  For someone who has a reputation with the ladies, what makes Skylar different?  Has she tamed the wild playboy?

Lucas: It’s true, I’ve certainly loved the ladies. I used to laugh when my grandfather told me one day I’d have the air knocked out of me by some girl. I laughed at his words until the day I had met Skylar. For me, she is ‘that girl’. I have never been happier in all of my life. She is amazing in every way.

Patricia: Alright folks, that is all we have time for today.  We appreciate our guests joining us . . . Wait! There will be NO FIGHTING in here!  PLEASE!  SECURITY! SECURITY!

LoveLikeYouveNeverBeenHurt CoverThe Summer Lake contemporary romance series follows a group of friends from a small lakeside town in the California hills. They have kept in touch over the years and now, in their early thirties, their lives are drawing them back to Summer Lake and to each other.

Love Like You’ve Never Been Hurt (Summer Lake # 1)

Emma Douglas came to Summer Lake as an orphan twenty three years ago. After losing her parents so young and later suffering a disastrous marriage, she believes that love only ever leads to pain and loss.

When she meets Jack Benson, the business partner of her childhood friend Pete, she sees everything she used to long for in a man; tall, dark, and drop dead gorgeous! Despite their undeniable attraction, Emma is too scared to risk her heart, especially on a man so much like her ex – sexy, smart, funny, successful and no doubt the same kind of cheat!

When events lead them both to Summer Lake for the summer, will Jack be able to persuade her that he’s nothing like her ex in all the ways that really matter? That the love she used to dream of isn’t a little girl’s fantasy, but a reality they can share if she can get past her fear and learn to trust?

About the Author:

Perfect DayI’m SJ. A coffee addict, lover of chocolate and drinker of good wines. I’m a lost soul and a hopeless romantic. Reading and writing are necessary parts of who I am. Though perhaps not as necessary as coffee! I can drink coffee without writing, but I can’t write without drinking coffee.

I grew up loving romance novels, my first boyfriends were book boyfriends, but life intervened, as it tends to do, and I wandered the paths of non fiction for a couple of decades. My life changed completely a couple of years ago and I returned to Romance to find my escape.

I write ‘Sweet N Steamy’ stories because to me the ‘feel-good-factor’, both emotional and physical, is what makes Romance so appealing.

“Don’t push me away, Emma, please?” She looked up, surprised by his tone. He was llooking at her with longing in his eyes.

“I’m sorry. I know I shouldn’t have kissed you, but I couldn’t resist you.” She stared at him. “Please say something?”

“I didn’t stop you,” she stammered.

“See!” he smiled, his confidence returning. “You didn’t stop me because you wanted to kiss me too, and don’t say you didn’t enjoy it.”

Emma was quickly regaining her senses. She shook her head. “But we’re just friends,” she insisted.

Jack’s hands fell to his sides. “You kiss me like that and then say we’re only going to be friends?” His victorious smile was fading fast.

“Jack, I already told you, you can keep trying all you like, but… we’re just friends.”

“OK, how about friends with kisses?” He was trying to make her laugh again. Despite herself she had to smile at him. She began walking again to her apartment which wasn’t far now. He walked backwards in front of her.

“Friends who kiss sometimes?” he held his hands out hopefully. She couldn’t help but laugh.

“Friends who kissed once.”

“And who enjoyed it?” he raised his eyebrows.

She shook her head, amused by his playful determination.

“Is that a shake of the head for no?” he asked, stopping dead in front of her so that she walked right into him. His arms closed around her once more. She stepped back, not daring to stay that close to him.

“I was shaking my head at you, not in disagreement with you.” She kept on walking.

“OK, then,” he smiled. “Friends who kissed once and enjoyed it. Do I have it right now?”

She gave a small nod, grateful that they were almost to her building. She needed to escape from him now, because she badly wanted to kiss him again and that wasn’t how this was supposed to be working.

“How about friends who kissed once and enjoyed it so much they will kiss each other again, deeply and often?”

He was nothing if not persistent and he certainly knew how to make her laugh. She stopped abruptly in front of her building and looked up at him.

“Friends who must say goodnight now and who will see each other with their other friends out at the lake,” she smiled.

“Friends who are going to have coffee before they say good night?” he asked.

She shook her head. “I’ll see you at Pete’s this weekend.”

He gave her a rueful smile. “Thanks for tonight, Emma. This was good.”

“It was good. I enjoyed it so much, Jack. But, it really is best for us to be friends.”

He nodded and wrapped her in a hug.  He tipped her chin with his thumb and, holding her eyes, slowly placed a chaste kiss on her lips. He stepped back and smiled.

“Friends who kiss goodnight.” With that he turned and was gone.

Parker, Morgan: non Friction

non Friction

non Friction

Morgan Parker’s first novel, Non Friction, tells the story of a man whose wife just walked out on him. Faced with an empty house and emotional turmoil, he turns to writing a novella, which introduces him to the fast and furious lifestyle of indie literature stardom… and Emma, a woman who comes on a little strong but turns out to be the one sliver of sunshine in his otherwise dark and devastating life.

Now that he has enjoyed a bit success and attention, his wife (Jennifer) comes back and suddenly decides that they should pursue marriage counseling. Eager to win her back, the main character agrees to anything and the counselor asks them to create something beautiful for each other. Our main character decides on Our Story, a love story that will not only win his wife back, but can also double as his next novel.

Over the course of writing Our Story, the main character realizes that winning Jennifer back might not be the smartest thing for his heart. In fact, he starts to appreciate the true meaning of the word love, which he finds in Emma.

After 12 years, 4 months and 1 and 1/2 weeks of marriage, his wife packs up and leaves with their daughter. So he writes an Indie novel. And it becomes a bestseller. Well, sort of.

His fame brings him the lifestyle of a rockstar, and he has the fan mail (i.e. female undergarments, probably clean) to prove it.

But seeing his fame, his wife suddenly believes in marriage counseling. Their homework: to create something beautiful for each other.

So he writes Our Story, his literary secret-weapon that will win his wife back. But in the process he discovers that true love is more than just ticking the right boxes on a checklist. It starts with… well… }i{ .

Morgan Parker has a sensational wit and uses it to his advantage in writing the story within a story that is non Friction.

It has taken me several days of not thinking about non Friction to be able to sit and actually write a review. I had to decide how I truly felt about this novel. Several days later I am now looking at the book through a different set of eyes, and looking on it much more favorably.

This poor man, Morgan, loses everything in his life in one fell swoop. His wife, whom I think he thinks he loves, his daughter, his dignity . . . then he has a hit on the indie author circuit with a quickly thought up book of texting. With this notoriety, and potential for fame and fortune, comes his wife, suddenly desiring marital counseling.

Both Jennifer (Princess B*tch) and Morgan begin counseling from a place of hurt, anger and bitterness, not from love. Through their counseling sessions, and homework each week, they begin to unravel the cloth of what exactly went wrong in their marriage and what role each of them played in its demise.

There is a tone of autobiographical writing in non Friction, though I’ve been assured that this author is nothing like his character. The entire cast of characters is entirely, well mostly, believable. They behave in a manner I see consistent with today’s society, from the self-absorbed running from man to man by Princess, to the seeking of self-affirmation by Morgan.

The language is a little tough at times, but again, it represents the situation the author in the book finds himself. Mr. Parker does warn his readers of the adult content, and actually counted the number of f-bombs his characters dropped.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and will be looking for some extra time over the upcoming holidays to enjoy Textual Encounters and Textual Encounters 2, also by Morgan Parker.  This book garners four stars and a hope for further writing by Mr. Parker.

Author Bio:

Morgan Parker is the pen name of a shy and introverted banker. He currently calls Toronto, Canada his home where he lives with his wife of 10 years and two children, a 9-year old son and a 4-year old daughter (who provided the foundation for Evelyn in non friction).

When he’s not writing, Morgan enjoys double-espresso cappuccinos (non-fat of course) at his favourite coffee shop, hiking and travelling.  He also enjoys sleeping, a lot.

Advanced Praise For non Friction

  • “Hilariously tragic.” Leslie Fear, author and co-founder of The Indie Bookshelf
  • “4.5 Stars . . . Way better than Textual Encounters.” Nikki Hardie, Blissful Book Blog

non Friction Media

The silence between us seemed to last an eternity. As we stared at each other, her fingers reached toward mine and traced long lines on my hand. We didn’t hug, didn’t really say anything else until it was goodbye. No happily ever after, not today.

“I wasn’t wrong about us,” she said, her voice hard and determined. But because there were words attached to that voice of hers, I didn’t place a whole lot of trust in them. “Morgan, I love you. No matter what happens, whether you hate me and never speak with me or see me again, I will always love you and the time we shared. And because of this love, I will always be waiting for you, just like Olivia waits until the end of time for Oliver. I’ll be there, always waiting, always for you.” She smiled at that point, and the sadness and doubt from earlier was gone.

“Goodbye, Emma.”

“Bye, Morgan.”

meet-the-authorIt is my pleasure to interview Candy Ann Little, author of Murder of an Oil Heiress. Welcome to Room With Books, Candy Ann. First let me give you a little background on Candy Ann.

Candy-Ann-Little-sqCandy Ann Little grew up in a small town in Ohio. She now resides in Michigan with her husband, two adult kids and 4 cats. She began writing in the aftermath of tragedy – her third child was stillborn. The nurse suggested keeping a journal to cope with the grief. Although she thought it a dumb idea at the time, she soon found a freedom and healing that only writing brought.

Eventually that pain and sorrow turned into her first Inspirational romance, Unforgiving Ghosts. Since then she has finished 2 more inspirational romances. Her historical romance The Unwilling Bride was published in 2011. She has also tried writing in the genre of mystery, including a novella, Death By Broken Heart, and her first full length novel, Murder of an Oil Heiress. Candy Ann finds it therapeutic putting her thoughts into the words and action of her characters. She also finds that discipline is the biggest lesson learned in her writing life.

When she isn’t busy writing, you can find her subbing in the public schools, or helping with church activities. Her favorite things to do are reading, cooking, baking and doing crafts.

  1. Tell me a little about Murder of an Oil Heiress and what inspired you to write it?  Murder of an Oil Heiress is based on a dream I had one night. In the dream it was me but, of course I didn’t look like me. In the dream I was sleeping with my sister’s husband, blackmailing my brother, and locked the family computer up so my dad was mad at me. When I woke up my first thought was, Oh no, I’m turning into Susan Lucci. LOL!! But then I realized I had enough of a plot to outline a mystery. So I changed the family computer to a family business and looked for names for my characters.
  2.  When you start writing do you usually have the story outlined or do your characters dictate what will happen?  I have to outline. I need to know where the plot is going in order to get my charters there.
  3. Have you ever had arguments with your characters and who usually wins?  Yes. Not so much in Murder of an Oil Heiress, but with my historical romance, The Unwilling Bride, I argued with Caitlin about the ending of the book. She won and because I listened to her, I’m now working on a second book, The Unwanted Bride.
  4. If you could write with any other author who would it be and why?  I’d pick Mary Higgins Clark because I like how she writes aspects of the characters personal life and love life mixed in with the murder. She always writes in a more simple style, which I tend write too.
  5. When you were younger, what did you want to be when you grew up?  An elementary school teacher.
  6. When did you decide to write and what prompted you to start?  Sixteen years ago I had a stillborn daughter. The nurse suggested I start writing a journal to help with the grieving process. After a few years, I decided to turn my emotions into a novel. I wanted to put my thoughts and emotions in book form, but wasn’t ready for a non-fiction book. The romance was a great way to have my character go through everything I did, yet it wasn’t as close and personal. I was able to achieve some distance. Unforgiving Ghosts is my first novel and the most personal to me.
  7. What music inspires your writing?  I tend to listen to a lot of love songs, both soft rock and country. I also listen to Christian groups.

Fun Facts:

What is your favorite breakfast?  I tend to like all breakfast foods. I sometimes make breakfast for supper.

What is your favorite color?  Emerald Green

What is your favorite movie?  Phantom of the Opera, of course this is a theater play. So for a straight movie I’d pick Sommersby. Although I felt a stiffness between Jodi Foster & Richard Gere, I felt that Gere pulled off his character so expertly that I could overlook the tension. It also had a surprise ending which made me sad and happy at the same time.

What is your dream car (details please)?  I want a red Mustang, an older version like 60’s or early 70’s.

I was also blessed with the inclusion of a very special blog post from Candy-Ann and I am privileged to share it with you here.

Peace After the Storm

By: Candy-Ann Little

Looking across the lush lawn, I notice some yellow and orange mums, their bright cheery colors a strong contrast to the cold, gray stone they surround. In the distance I notice four bushes strategically planted in front of a white fence. The fence and flowers are the only colors that break up the greens of the grass and trees.

In the thick patch of trees, at the edge of the property, I hear the birds, tree frogs, locusts and crickets chirping their songs, lifting their tune in unison to their Creator. I also listen to the happy humming of the bees as they flit around the flowerbed.

The rustling of the leaves, produced by the gentle wind, soothes my soul. Amazed, I watch as the branches dance, stretching their arms toward the sun in a gesture of praise. The large yellow ball brightens the blue sky, reaching down with its warmth, gently caressing my skin.

This inspiring, peaceful day brings a song to my heart and praise to my God. My spirit dances with joy as I delight in another beautiful summer day.  Strange how my feelings differ greatly from the first time I set foot here.

Although it has been many years, I still remember the bitter wind whipping about, chilling me to the bone. The dreary fog not only settled around the cemetery, but also rooted itself deep into my heart. Bitterness and sorrow whirled inside of me like the storm clouds swirling in the sky that day. Rain drops pelted against my face as if nature herself grieved. These physical indications served only to reinforce the misery I felt while burying my baby girl.

As I stood in this very spot saying good-bye to a daughter I never got to know – her life taken away before her tiny body even entered the world, I wondered if there would ever be sunshine, peace or love in my life again.

Thankfully, as I sit here all these years later, the pain and sorrow dimmed, I can answer with certainty — yes!

What could possibly make the pain and sorrow lessen? Life in general. It rolls on, stopping for nothing. The strong winds shift and change causing you to turn in directions you didn’t want to go. Directions you never would have dreamed possible. As hard as it may be, life does go on and you to either race behind it, trying to catch up, or roll along with it.

I stand in here in warm sunshine, feeling happy, peaceful and full of excitement. My life on a crazy course I would never have chosen, but a course that God has laid before me. Like the majestic beauty He created in the world, He’s creating my life also, using both good and bad events. Who would have thought that that the death of my daughter would lead me to this day?

How could I have foreseen that all my pain and grief would turn me into a writer? That I’d have 3 self published novels, and today, have signed on with a small press to publish my fourth book – also my first mystery – Murder of an Oil Heiress.

After the raging storms have calmed, the sky clears, and the sun peeks out. I can look back over the years and say there is most definitely peace after the storm!

Thank you, Candy Ann, for taking the time to sit down and talk with me about your writing, especially during the Official Release Tour of Murder of an Oil Heiress, and for sharing so openly with me and my readers here on Room With Books.

Mallory brushed her hair behind her ears then placed the silver brush on the vanity. It had been two weeks since she’d visited the work site, and four weeks since Joseph had made love to her. She couldn’t wait any longer. Wanting him filled her days and consumed her nights. Hopefully, the note she sent with her maid would make him come to her.

Just as the thought formed in her mind, a knock boomed on her door. She jumped, then, smiled. He’d come to her. One more time.

“Come in,” she played coy.

The door opened with a thud. “What in the blazes do you think you’re doing?” He held up the note. “Don’t you ever threaten me!” He crumbled it up and threw it on the floor. “I’m no servant to be summoned at your disposal.”

“Oh, Joseph, I don’t think of you as a servant.” She stood, her sheer, white gown, floating to the floor. “I believe you are so much more.” Her husky voice filled the room, which seemed to shrink in size as she walked closer. “You’re my lover,” she barely whispered the words. “That’s a big difference.”

“Stop it.” Joe pushed her back a few steps. “Whatever you think is going to happen, isn’t. Get that through your thick skull.”

She stepped closer, wrapping her arms around his waist. “I’ve never been one to take no for an answer.” She brushed against him.

Joe grabbed her wrists. “You’re going to take it now.” He pushed her away. “I’m not drunk enough to fall into bed with you.”

“I wouldn’t be so sure.” She smiled, her red lips emitting doom.

“Stay away from me, and Sarah.”

“I hear poor Sarah isn’t feeling well.” Mallory pouted.

“Her blood pressure is a little high, that’s all.”

“Really? I heard she has to be on bed rest as much as possible.” A red painted nail tapped the corner of her mouth. “I wonder how finding out that her husband cheated on her will affect the baby?”

“Mallory, what do you want from me?”

“I think I’ve made myself perfectly clear on that.” She stepped closer.

“And, I’ve made myself clear.” He put his hands on her shoulders, halting her progress. “It will never happen again.”

Mallory laughed. “We’ll see.” She walked over to the closet, opened the door and put a DVD in the player.

Joe stood, horrified as images of him and Mallory appeared on the screen. She’d just tossed him a package and he ripped it open with his teeth. “I’ll put them on and take them off.” The words made him feel weak. The images made him want to vomit.

Mallory smiled at his reaction. “I have the whole night on tape. We can watch every moment and relive it.” She stepped closer, carefully judging his mood. He seemed mad enough to strangle her. “Perhaps Sarah would enjoy it.”

“Stop it.” Joe yelled, tears filling his eyes. “Why are you doing this?”

“I want you, Joseph. And, I always get what I want.” She brushed up against him. “That was the best night of my life. We can have it again.”

Joe stood, transfixed, watching the screen. What had gotten into him that night? He’d drunk too much before and never wound up making such a mistake. “I can’t do that again.”

“Oh, yes you can.” She kissed his neck. “Or, I’ll have to show this to Sarah.”

“No.” Tears streamed down his face. “It’ll destroy her.”

Mallory brushed her chest up against him like a dog in heat. “Then make love to me again.”

“Yes.” She kissed his lips. “I want to feel your hands all over my body.” She took his hands, brushing them across her chest.

Joe watched as her nipples hardened beneath the thin material. He could feel the heat from her body. He hated how his body reacted to her.

“Kiss me, Joseph.” Her husky voice floated around him, drowning him in sorrow. “Touch me.” She squeezed his hands around her nearly naked breasts. “Make love to me.” She captured his lips with hers. “I’m yours to do with as you please.”

“That could be dangerous.” He pictured his hands strangling her thin, white neck.

“Anger can hold just as much passion as love.” She kissed him, sealing his fate.

Davis, Cheryl: Cora’s Kismet

Life was bad enough for twins, Cora and Viola Daniels, when suddenly their world was turned upside down.

When Liam Anderson shows up to save Cora and Viola from their situation, and to bring them back into their true family fold, Cora knows that there’s something special about him.

As she and her twin are being chased down by their, now former, guardians, Cora is finding out more and more about herself that she knew nothing about. Suddenly, they have loving parents, bound powers and a prophecy to fulfill, but first they have to find their soul mates that will help them through it all. All of this has to take place before their 18th birthday, which is only six months away.

Racing against time and deadly enemies, will Cora find her mate in Liam, or will all be lost? Will she be able to find herself in this new world and make it to the ceremony that will restore her powers, or will their enemies win, putting the world’s future at stake?

“Who are you?” Cora asked after they’d been sitting there for a few minutes.
“My name is Liam,” he replied.
“Liam,  I’m Cora and that’s my sister, Viola.”
“I  know,” Liam told her.
“How  do you know who we are and where we live?” Cora asked. She knew that she should  have known he would know who they were, since he’d been in their room looking for them, and had known who Patrick and Anna were, but adrenaline was making her thoughts scattered.
“You will get answers to your questions Cora, just not now. Right now we have to focus on getting where we’re going, without Patrick catching us. I need you to
trust me for now, so I can concentrate on protecting you and Viola,” Liam bit out, a little impatient. He wanted to explain things but knew that if he did, he’d be in deep trouble. It was not his place. He had his orders. Oh, but for her, he wanted to defy his orders and answer her questions. He wanted to soothe away the stress lines that had formed on her beautiful face.
“You keep saying that. It’s getting on my nerves. I have no reason to trust or believe you. Why should I?” Cora responded. Her nerves were wound tight and it
was evident in her voice.
“I know you don’t, yet, but you’re going to have to,” Liam responded, with a calmness that he wasn’t feeling. She was beginning to irritate him and the urge to tranq her, like they’d done with Viola, was getting stronger by the minute, but the attraction that he felt for her kept him from harming her in any way.

“Don’t even think about it!” Cora exclaimed a bit louder than she’d wanted to.

Liam’s head snapped around to look at her. His eyes narrowed while he studied her. There was no way that she was in his head. “Think about what?”
“Doing to me what you did to Viola,” Cora responded with an angry glare in his direction. “I could see it written all over your face that you were considering
it and I won’t let you.”
“Care to tell me how you are going to stop me if I decide that I’m going to?” Liam asked with slight amusement, that he didn’t feel, lacing his voice. How did she
do that? He knew that he’d kept his face blank.
“Trust me, you don’t want to know. Now, since there’s no sign of Patrick, can we go?” Cora asked getting impatient. All of a sudden she felt the need to move before
something bad happened.

Water & Fire Book Blitz Banner

Water and Fire Cover 15-9-2013A steamy contemporary medical romance involving a sexy doctor, a naughty nurse, a midwife on a mission and a mysterious predator in Albany, Western Australia.

Working as a student midwife in an Australian country hospital is never easy, but Belinda finds more trouble than most.

There’s the intern doctor who follows her around like an overgrown puppy, the dangerous local wildlife and her own secrets she must keep. When she finds herself without a place to live, what else can possibly go wrong?

Or is it time for something to go right?

He caught me staring. “Have you never seen a man with hair on his chest before?” he asked testily.

I didn’t know what to say. “Not the colour of fire, no,” I said finally.

He relented. “Back home in Ireland, it’s supposed to be good luck to rub a man’s red hair, like a leprechaun.” He saw my confusion. “A sort of mythical creature.” He took a step closer to me, still shirtless. “Go on.”

I was reluctant to touch the man at all, let alone his strange chest hair, but the hope of better luck for the future got the better of me. Besides, I felt I might offend him if I spurned his offer.

I stretched a hand out, lightly stroking the wiry orange hair trailing down his stomach. He pulled away, doubling over. I drew my hand back.

“That tickles,” he apologised. His expression turned to a broad smile. “Now, your turn.”

It took me a moment to understand what he meant. “But I don’t have any chest hair and it wouldn’t be red, even if I did.”

His smile turned cheeky as he continued. “No chest hair? You expect me to believe that? You must have some insulation, not to have frozen solid in the wind out on the boat today.”

I shook my head. “None. Even if I did, it would be too fair to bring you any luck.”

I looked away and refilled our whiskey glasses so I didn’t have to look at him. I gulped the contents of mine down as quickly as I could.

“Go on.” His eyes held a challenge. He turned his back to me and picked up the poker, shifting the logs in the fire to burn better.

The man was a doctor. How many chests had he seen in the course of his profession? What was one more? I shrugged and pulled my t-shirt off. My frozen fingers had been too cold to fasten a bra earlier in the day, so my chest was now as bare as his.

“Holy Mary, Mother of God!” His eyes were as round as two puffed-up blowfish.

The poker clattered to the hearth.

Demelza Carlton has always loved the ocean, but on her first snorkelling trip she found she was afraid of fish.

She has since swum with sea lions, sharks and sea cucumbers and stood on spray drenched cliffs over a seething sea as a seven-metre cyclonic swell surged in, shattering a shipwreck below.

Sensationalist spin? Hardly. She takes a camera with her to photograph such things to share later. She asserts that sharks are camera shy.

Demelza now lives in Perth, Western Australia, the shark attack capital of the world.

The Ocean’s Gift series was her first foray into fiction, followed by her Nightmares trilogy.
