~ INTERVIEW ~
It is my pleasure to welcome Lisa Cronkhite, author of Deep in the Meadows, to Room With Books.
What do you do when you are not writing?
I spend time with my husband and kids. Watch movies, ID Network, things like that. I also spend a lot of time with my pets.
Is there any particular author or book that influenced you in any way either growing up or as an adult?
Anne Rice and Carol Goodman.
Can you tell us about your challenges in getting your first book published?
I wrote my first book in 10 days and then submitted it soon afterwards. I was manic at the time and would NOT advise doing that. I got nothing but rejections so I stopped all together. But there was one editor that contacted me almost a year afterwards and gave me the confidence to revise. I got a contract with a publisher right away. In fact I had two offers at the time. So revising is an absolute must.
If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
To heal people.
What was your first job?
I was a cashier at a fast food place. Worked there for 6 weeks and quit. Never worked in fast food again.
What types of books do you write and who is you main audience?
Mystery/Suspense and sometimes Paranormal genres. My main audience is mostly Young Adults, but anyone young or old that can relate or wants to know more about mental illness, because every one of my books has mental illness elements in it.
Out of all of your characters, which is your favorite? Why?
Bee’s dad. He’s comforting and always loving.
What does your writing schedule look like?
Wide open most of the time. I write mostly during the morning hours and read the rest of the time.
Do you use your OWN experiences?
Absolutely. Works every time.
Was it easy to pick the title for your book?
For Deep in the Meadows, yes.
What one profession would you choose if you were not an author?
An agent. I would love to do that, but I’m terrified of having a submission pile to go through. And I have no experience in it whatsoever.
What are you currently working on?
A story about two boys—best friends. One is the stable one (the Main Character) and his best buddy who’s the wild one. But the wild best friend steals a gun from his father and whips it out in the woods at a party one night and all goes to hell after that.
What is your favorite flavor of ice cream? Chocolate
Night owl, or early bird? Early bird
Red, or white wine? Neither, a Monster Energy Drink would be better
Roller Coasters or Water Rides? I used to love roller coasters but I’m too old for that now. My body can’t handle it anymore. Lol
Swimming in the ocean or a pool? OCEAN!!!
Walking or fitness club? Walking, definitely. It helps with ideas and brainstorming.
Any last words?
Just live life, have fun and don’t worry so much! That’s the best advice I can give.
Thank you, Lisa, for taking some time to “chat” with us today and most of all for allowing Room With Books to be part of your tour!
