When Brooke’s older sister, Mindy, shows up at her door with her three kids in tow, she barely recognizes her sibling who looks like she’s on the verge of a total breakdown. While adventurous, wanderlust Brooke was always the problem child, eager to slip free of Wildstone and its small town constraints, Mindy was the golden child, who never had a hair out of place or a GPA below 4.0. The Mindy that arrives at Brooke’s apartment however, is a far cry from the ever-perfect doctor’s wife.

Brooke’s further stunned when Mindy asks to trade places with her for a few days so she can pick up her pieces and put herself back together. What Mindy doesn’t realize is that Brooke is just as broken. Her sister needs her though, so Brooke takes the kids and returns to Wildstone.

But how does one go home after seven years away and what feels like a lifetime of secrets? It doesn’t take long for Brooke to come face-to-face with her past, in the form of one tall, dark, sexy mistake. But Garrett’s no longer interested, or so he says. Only his words don’t match his actions, leaving Brooke feeling things she long ago shoved deep.

The sisters begin to wonder if the childhood taunts were true, are they lemons in life? In love? True or not, they know one thing — you can’t run far enough to outpace your demons. And when long-dead secrets surface, they’ll have to overcome their differences and learn that sometimes the one person who can help you the most is the one you never thought to ask.

RAINY DAY FRIENDS by JILL SHALVIS BOOK REVIEW @JillShalvis

Rainy Day Friends

A Wildstone Novel

By: Jill Shalvis

Harper Collins – June 19, 2018

Following the USA Today bestselling author of Lost and Found Sisters comes Jill Shalvis’ moving story of heart, loss, betrayal, and friendship

Six months after Lanie Jacobs’ husband’s death, it’s hard to imagine anything could deepen her sense of pain and loss. But then Lanie discovers she isn’t the only one grieving his sudden passing. A serial adulterer, he left behind several other women who, like Lanie, each believe she was his legally wedded wife.

Rocked by the infidelity, Lanie is left to grapple with searing questions. How could she be so wrong about a man she thought she knew better than anyone? Will she ever be able to trust another person? Can she even trust herself?

Desperate to make a fresh start, Lanie impulsively takes a job at the family-run Capriotti Winery. At first, she feels like an outsider among the boisterous Capriottis. With no real family of her own, she’s bewildered by how quickly they all take her under their wing and make her feel like she belongs. Especially Mark Capriotti, a gruffly handsome Air Force veteran turned deputy sheriff who manages to wind his way into Lanie’s cold, broken heart—along with the rest of the clan.

Everything is finally going well for her, but the arrival of River Brown changes all that. The fresh-faced twenty-one-year old seems as sweet as they come…until her dark secrets come to light—secrets that could destroy the new life Lanie’s only just begun to build.

Disclaimer: I received a copy of RAINY DAY FRIENDS by Jill Shalvis for the purpose of an honest review. The opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

It was truly my pleasure to read RAINY DAY FRIENDS for review, but I would have picked this book up to read just because it is a really good book!

Jill Shalvis’ writing takes me on an emotional roller coaster, laughing one minute and tearing up the next! The characters are strong, stubborn, loving and sometimes just plain unlikeable! The one thing that the Capriottis always are is family! And family doesn’t mean blood!

There isn’t just one plot rolling out in RAINY DAY FRIENDS, there are several that intertwine throughout! I had no problem following along with what was happening, even though this is part of a series of books, and I haven’t read any of the previous Wildstone novels.

I give RAINY DAY FRIENDS by Jill Shalvis five steaming hot cups of Reviews by Room With Books coffee! I recommend you grab a copy of RAINY DAY FRIENDS by Jill Shalvis and a cozy place you can read it uninterrupted! I know you’ll love it as much as I did!

Christmas Novella Blog Tour

Christmas Novella Blog Tour

Featuring Authors

Jill Shalvis, J.S. Scott, Jessica Scott,

Nadia Lee, and Rita Herron

Love a great Christmas romance, but pressed for time? Pick up a holiday novella to satisfy your craving for a great happy-ever-after. This season contemporary authors Jill Shalvis, J.S. Scott, Jessica Scott, Nadia Lee, and Rita Herron are all releasing Christmas reads.

Today these authors stop by to spread the holiday cheer and discuss their favorite Christmas movies. Take it away ladies!

Jill Shalvis, author of Merry Christmas, Baby

One of my favorite holiday movies is The Holiday because I think it’s warm and funny and hugely romantic. As for my characters, Tanner, the hero from One in a Million, really loves A Christmas Carol, the original black and white version because it scares the crap out of Callie, and when Callie is scared she holds onto Tanner really tight and he likes that.  A lot…  And if we asked Callie, she might say the same movie for the exact same reason… 🙂

J.S. Scott, author of The Billionaire’s Christmas

I drag out my holiday movies every year (much to my hubby’s dismay!) and watch the same ones over and over. Probably my favorite is Miracle on 34th Street. My hero’s favorite movie is probably none of them since Grady hates Christmas until he meets Emily. He might be able to relate to A Christmas Carol because he acts a lot like Scrooge. My heroine’s favorite holiday movie would have to be It’s a Wonderful Life since she appreciates the joy and the true meaning of the holidays. She gets rescued by a very unlikely angel, a billionaire Scrooge, and teaches him to find meaning in the holidays again.

Jessica Scott, author of All I Want For Christmas Is You

My favorite holiday movie is a toss up between The Grinch Who Stole Christmas and Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. I know they’re kids movies but they’re just part of my habitus and they bring back all the holiday feels.

Sam, from All I Want For Christmas Is You, loves the holiday movie Scrooged. She’s got a pretty warped sense of humor and she loves Bill Murray. Patrick’s fave is The Muppet Christmas Carol and if he’s not around his family, Bad Santa. Because there’s just something dark and twisted about that movie that strikes his bizarre sense of humor just right.

Rita Herron, author of Going To the Chapel

There are so many great holiday movies, it’s hard to choose but I do have two. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation is a classic that I never get tired of watching. I love Chevy Chase’s character; he wants to please his family and give them a great Christmas, and his obsession with the lights on the house is funny and endearing. The other characters are quirky and the family dynamics are hysterical. My next favorite is While You Were Sleeping. I loved Lucy’s (Sandra Bullock) sweet, vulnerable character and felt for how desperately she wanted a family at the holidays. It was fun to watch her fall in love with Peter’s brother while Peter was in the coma. Very well written with great dialogue, timing, and characters.

My hero’s favorite is probably anything with Scrooge since my guy is jaded at the beginning of the novella about love, romance, and the holidays. Izzy’s favorite would probably be The Ref because there’s tension between the family at the beginning and some quirky suspense as the criminal holds the family hostage, but in the end the family comes together to save everyone just as her family does in Going To The Chapel.

Nadia Lee, author of The Billionaire’s Holiday Obsession

My favorite holiday movie is The Sound of Music. Technically, yeah, it’s probably not a holiday movie, but it has the song “My Favorite Things” so I feel like it should count. 😉 My hero from The Billionaire’s Holiday Obsession doesn’t have a favorite holiday movie. Iain hates holidays because it means obligatory family time, and his relationship with his parents is rather uncomfortable. Jane, however, loves Christmas and Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer. It’s fun to watch an adorable misfit reindeer find a place for himself.

But as the snow begins to fall and the wind rages, he wonders whether he can make it back in time. While mother nature conspires to keep Sawyer and Chloe apart, an unexpected arrival will require them to kiss and make up . . . and ring in the happiest holiday Lucky Harbor has ever seen.

JS Scott

Called an eccentric beast by the citizens of Amesport, Maine, handsome billionaire Grady Sinclair stays isolated in his mansion on a private peninsula. The arrangement suits Grady just fine—until an angelic woman rings his doorbell, awaking his long dormant passion with her fearlessness. All he wants is to make the fiery blonde his forever. But will he have to become the monster everyone thinks he is to get his Christmas wish?

Emily Ashworth is desperate. The Youth Center has been robbed of all its money, and as the director, she has to find a way to give the town’s needy children the Christmas they deserve. With nowhere else to turn, she ventures to the mansion of a mysterious billionaire to ask for help. Warned to expect a beast, Emily is shocked to find Grady Sinclair a handsome and passionate man. Is this misunderstood billionaire just a lonely soul who needs the gift of love for Christmas?

Jessica Scott

All Major Patrick MacLean wanted was Christmas with the woman and child who were his family in everything but name. But Captain Samantha Egan has come back from the war a different woman than the one who left – and she doesn’t know if she can love him anymore.

But neither of them counted on the determination of a little girl they both call daughter and if Natalie has her wish, her parents may have no idea what’s coming for them. It’s going to take Christmas miracle to bring these two wounded warriors back from the edge of a broken heart.

Rita Herron

If there’s a naughty list, Izzy Sassafras is on it—but she’s ready to make a new start this Christmas. Especially after leaving her lying, cheating, no-good husband and fleeing to her old hometown of Matrimony, Georgia. Izzy’s made herself a promise: no more men. All she wants to do is get her wedding business up and running—and mend fences with her estranged sisters. But Izzy knows she’s in trouble when her very first client, a smooth-talking Texan, makes her light up like a Christmas tree.

Desperate for business, private investigator Levi Fox reluctantly takes a case involving a runaway wife in a town called Matrimony. When he meets sweet, sexy Izzy, he decides she can’t possibly be as innocent as she seems. At first, posing as her client is the perfect cover; but he soon imagines himself as a groom—with Izzy as his Christmas bride! Will this case end with a trip to the chapel…or the jailhouse?

Nadia Lee

Deep in debt and stalked by a deadly conman, Jane Connolly needs a job and a safe place to stay. With no one to turn to in an unfamiliar city, she can’t refuse the kindness of a magnetic stranger.

A former mixed martial arts fighter, billionaire Iain Pryce couldn’t walk away from a small town girl in a big city, especially when it’s obvious she’s in trouble. But her sweet spirit threatens the single principle he’s been living under for the past thirteen years: don’t lose control…
