About the Book

Blaise Knight is content. She owns a trendy, in-demand flower boutique, has great friends, and an obsession with red velvet cake. After a string of disappointing dates, Blaise decides to give up dating, and focus on the things that are most important to her.

Greyson Steele is the “family stud”. After his stint in the Delta Force, he is coerced into the family business. And, his manipulative mother is planning a wedding for him to a woman he can’t stand. But Greyson has other plans. At thirty-nine, Greyson is ready to settle down, but only with a woman he chooses. After meeting the fiery owner of Knight in Bloom, Greyson finds his match.

Sparks fly when Blaise and Greyson meet. Can he convince her to take a chance on him? Or will Blaise’s past ruin their chances for a future? Their romance forces Greyson on a chase halfway around the world to solve a mystery, and find his love.

Excerpt

If Greyson had ever been nervous standing in front of a woman’s door before, he didn’t remember. But here and now, in front of Blaise’s, he could swear his palms were sweaty. I should have brought flowers, he thought. Then immediately rejected the idea. Flowers for the flower shop owner. Stupid idea. Besides, he has seen Blaise’s talent. Flowers from anywhere else would just be inferior. And, it was probably in bad taste to buy from a competitor. Greyson certainly didn’t need more reasons for Blaise to reject him.

Grateful that he had taken the time to change into well-worn jeans and a black t-shirt—may as well be comfortable while begging—he knocked on the door.

The door slid open. “Honey, I told you I was fine and you didn’t have to…”

Greyson was struck dumb by the sight before him. Mere hours before, Blaise was the epitome of grace and class. The gown she wore accentuated everything about Blaise that Greyson found sexy. But now. Damn. Her hair was piled on the top of her head in a messy bun, her face was clean of any cosmetics and she wore a men’s white button up shirt and white fluffy socks. Whether she had on anything under that shirt, Greyson didn’t know, but he ached to find out. To him, Blaise was sexier right at this moment than he had ever seen her.

“Hi.”

“What?” She frowned, and waved a spoon in his direction. He hadn’t noticed the carton of ice cream until then. “What are you doing here? How did you know where I live?”

“I’m here because you wouldn’t listen to me before. I need to explain.”

“You need to go home to your fiancée, Mr. Steele.”

“Goddamn it, Blaise. She’s not my fucking fiancée. That’s what I’m trying to tell you.”

Blaise raised an eyebrow, and Greyson wondered if she was aware of just how beautiful she looked right now.

“The ring and the woman say something different,” she shot back. “And, you certainly didn’t deny it at that moment. If you just broke up with her and came here, that’s even lower, Mr. Steele.”

Greyson let out a frustrated growl, and scrubbed his hands over his face. “May I come in?” he asked through gritted teeth.

“No.”

“Blaise.” The tone of his voice was one he used when he wanted to intimidate those around him to do as he demanded. He shouldn’t have been surprised when it didn’t even faze her.

“Do not ‘Blaise’ me. And, don’t you dare use that tone with me. I am not one of your employees, or lackeys or whatever. You have something to say, say it right here.” She leaned against the door jamb, crossing her ankles, and waited. Digging the spoon into the carton, Blaise looked up at him. “And, don’t think I don’t realize you totally skipped over my question of how you found out where I live.”

He watched her wrap her lips around the spoon. Just as he had when he sat at dinner with her a few nights ago, he found watching her eat completely erotic. And, as much as her stubbornness irked him, he couldn’t help but feel an equal—or more—amount of respect for her.

“Fine,” he sighed. If he had to do this out in the hallway, so be it. “I am not engaged. That’s the most important thing I need you to know.” He held up a hand when she opened her mouth. “If you’re going to make me talk out here, the least you can do is hear me out.”

Her jaw tightened with annoyance, but she nodded before taking another bite of what he could now see was Ben & Jerry’s Coffee, Coffee flavor.

“I’m not engaged,” he repeated. “I’ve never been engaged, and I certainly would never even contemplate marrying Pricilla. She surprised the shit out of me with the ring, as well, which is why I didn’t say anything. It’s my mother’s ring, but I didn’t give it to her. Fuck, I wouldn’t give that hideous thing to anyone.” He took a deep breath. “I was there with Pricilla because my mother asked me to escort her. ‘Keeping up appearances’, she calls it. Padding her fucking portfolio by trying to merge the families is what it really is. I’ve already resigned myself to taking over the family business. I refuse to give her this. Tonight was a mistake. I should never have agreed to it.” He braved a step closer to her. “I never wanted to hurt you, or make you think I’m that kind of bastard.”

About the Author

I’ve been in Houston, Texas, writing novels and designing websites since 2009. Moving here was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, because I’ve been able to live wonderfully, and write my heart out. I’ve always enjoyed the arts in one form or another. Music sets the mood, reading stimulates my brain, and writing allows me to utilize my imagination in any way I want. I’ve been writing stories since I was a teen, and figured out writing was my passion when I finished my first novel, Something About Eve.

I love being captivated by books that lead me into different, exotic places, and through impossible scenarios. I love being able to become someone else for a time. Reading has always inspired me to bring my own characters out to play. My hope is that my writing will inspire others, or at the least, give them a way to escape from everyday life for a little while.

As web designer, etc. for singer/actress Deborah Gibson, I’ve had the opportunity to be involved in wonderful experiences, travel around the country and meet exciting people. Just recently, I was able to travel to Berlin, and meet some fantastic people. It’s experiences like this, I believe, that help me create unique, and (hopefully) lovable characters.

I will be continuing the LA Lovers series with Ellie’s book next. Each book will be a stand-alone, but look for Eve, Lainey, and Adam to show up here and there. I truly hope you enjoyed Blaise and Greyson. You’ll be able to see more of them in the next book!

I spend my time writing, designing websites and caring for what is really a zoo with 3 dogs, 2 cats, a bearded dragon, 2 frogs and 2 turtles. In the recent years, I’ve changed my lifestyle to include working out and eating right. I now compete in triathlons, have run two half-marathons, and love yoga.

I love bringing my characters out for everyone to meet. My goal is to keep writing in many different genres, as I feel there shouldn’t be anything limiting writers.

 Excerpt

“Well. This is . . . quaint.” Eric pushes open the room door to the one and only place to stay here in the village.

I told you. Eric is a total politician since the room we’re standing in is a complete broom closet. The good thing is there’s absolutely no one around and we have the place to ourselves. So, we rented out four rooms. I think the owners of this ‘quaint’ little place were a bit stunned, and completely happy to hand over the keys to half of their rooms.

“Isn’t it though?” I murmur. All I can think of is how thin the walls are. Somehow I doubt Sam and I will have any privacy, which sucks (pun intended) because feeding from Sam definitely makes me . . .

“Ana?”

I clear my throat as Sam laughs quietly. “Yes, Emily?”

“Have you heard from Amanda?”

“Yes. Assuming Tania is on her way here, they’re about thirty minutes out. Why don’t you two get some sleep? We’ll need to keep eyes on Tania at all times unless she ends up bunking down somewhere.”

Eric and Emily nod, and Sam and I leave them to go to the farthest room away.

Sam pushes the door close and backs me up against it. “Feeding from me makes you what?” he asks gruffly.

“I’m pretty sure you know.”

“I want to hear you say it.”

“Well I don’t!”

Amanda’s voice in my ear startles me so much I jump the entire distance of the room. Okay, it’s only like ten feet, but still.

“Damn it, Amanda!” I put my hand over my heart. If I had any doubts that I had a beating heart before, I certainly don’t now.

“It’s not my fault you left the line open! And I certainly don’t want to hear what goes on between you and my brother!”

“Do you have any updates?” The question comes out harsher than I meant for it to, but she interrupted a nice moment that could have turned into really nice moments.

“Don’t get all grumpy with me. At least you have someone to do stuff with that shouldn’t be done over an open line.”

I open my mouth to respond, then close it again. She’s right. Amanda finally got her crush to ask her out, and I totally ruin it for her by recruiting her to the Society.

“Sorry.”

There’s an awkward silence, and then a soft clearing of a throat.

“According to Jenna’s search, Tania’s friend’s name is Monica McKinney. Nothing scandalous to report about her. She’s twenty-four and works for a bank. She’s been there since she graduated from high school. No arrests, no tickets. She’s an all-around Pollyanna as far as anyone can tell. Jenna says she can hack into her Facebook to see who her friends are, but I doubt that would help us much. They’re definitely on their way there. We are close to your village.”

“It’s not my village anymore, Amanda,” I inform her gently.

“Ana, a part of you will always be there.”

I ignore that, and move on with the conversation. “Tell Jenna good job on the search. Do you think Buffy and Willow will visit with the Priestess tonight or find a place to sleep for the night?”

As soon as the question is out of my mouth, I realize that the only place they can sleep is right here where we are. Unless, of course, they know someone in the village. If that’s the case, we may get names of some of the other players.

“I’m hoping they sleep, ’cause I’m tired as hell.”

I can hear the weariness in Amanda’s voice, and it makes me cringe. I need to remember that my Hunters need to rest. Rest, eat, train. It’s a simple thing to remember. Why I’m having such a hard time with it, who the hell knows?

“Sam and I will meet you and take over. You guys come back to the motel and sleep.”

“We can stick it out until she . . . “

“No, Amanda. Eric and Emily are sleeping. You guys need to as well. Tell me how far out you are and we’ll take over the tail as you pass by.”

“Is that an order?” Amanda asks haughtily.

“Yes, Ms. Crabby Pants, it is. If you’re giving me this attitude, you will only get worse the longer you’re awake. I don’t need that crap.” I make sure I put enough teasing in my voice where she knows I’m kidding with her. At least I hope she does.

“Fine, Selene. We’re about twenty minutes out, coming in on the main road.”

I chuckle at my ‘handle’. “We’ll be out there, hidden. I’ll signal you when we see you. They may head in our direction since this is the only place to sleep around here. If that’s the case, Sam and I will keep watch. If not, we will continue on with them and contact you after you’ve gotten some sleep.”

“Can we be sure you and Sam won’t be . . . “

“Yes!” I laugh. “We can control ourselves, you know.”

“Sure you can. And Jenna doesn’t pop her damn gum.”

“Whatever,” I laugh. “I have much more self-discipline than blondie. It’s really too bad Buffy was taken. Jenna fills that to a tee.”

I hear Amanda telling Jenna what I said. “She’s giving you a hand gesture. I’ll leave it to your imagination what gesture it is. Now get going or you’re not going to make it.”

“Yes ma’am.”

excerpt
“How long do we have to wait?”

Amanda was pacing nervously, and it reminded me so much of Sam that I felt a pang in my heart.

“He is used to feeding whenever he wants. Being deprived of it for even a couple of hours will have a tremendous effect on him.”

My hands were trembling when ran them through my hair. I clench my fists, trying to gain some control, but until I know what Thomas knows about Sam, I don’t think that will happen. I don’t even notice when Amanda stops pacing, but when I glance at her, I see she’s watching me intently.

“What?”

“Do you need blood?”

“I’m fine, Amanda.”

“Ana, I’m worried about you almost as much as I am about Sam.”

“Focus on Sam.” It came out a little more harsh than I intended, and I was immediately sorry for it. I drop heavily in the wing back chair that sat near a floor-to-ceiling window. “I am sorry. I am not used to these feelings, Amanda. I have not been human for so long, that I’m not sure how to handle these human emotions.”

“I can’t imagine that you haven’t had human emotions all this time.”

I started as Jenna walked in the room then. I should have sensed her, but I’ve allowed myself to be consumed with this fear for Sam. I could only stare as the rest of my Hunters followed her in, surrounding me with their concern and caring.

“I have humanity,” I explain to Jenna. “But, after losing my parents, I cut myself off from having any emotions for others. It hurts too much.” I didn’t stop the tear from rolling down my cheek.

“What made you let Sam in?” Emily spoke quietly, as usual, but the curiosity was loud and clear.

“I didn’t let him in, Emily. I just couldn’t stop it. It surprised me as much as I think it did the rest of you.”

“He’ll be okay.” Eric placed a gentle hand on my shoulder which brought on more tears.

“Right, I’m sure this Thomas jackass is just holding him somewhere to make you crazy.”

Jeremy’s attempt at making me feel better doesn’t quite hit the mark, but I’m grateful for the attempt. Once they were done trying to placate me, they moved to Amanda, giving her the same treatment. I’m grateful for that as well, since I’m not doing a great job at helping her. Some best friend I am.

I get up abruptly. “I need blood,” I mumble, and walk away feeling shameful.

“Ana!” Amanda jogged to catch up with me.

When I turn suddenly, she practically runs into me.

“I’m sorry.”

She waves away my apology. “It’s fine. I mean, I’m the one who was running after you . . . “

“No. I’m sorry I’m not here for you. I feel so incredibly selfish. You’re Sam’s sister, and I know you are scared.” I grab her and hug her fiercely. “I will find him. I promise.”

She hugs me back, and I feel her composure slip a bit as she clung to me. “I know you will,” she whispers, then pulls away. “Listen, we’ve been talking.”

She gestures behind her, where the others are suddenly there again. Their stealth abilities are certainly improving.

“Thomas has obviously been feeding live,” Amanda continues. “We think you should, too. I mean, it can only help you when you go up against him.”

“What are you saying?” I ask wearily.

“Choose one of us, or all. We’re willing to help you.”

“No.”

“Ana,” Jenna stepped forward. “You can’t afford to be stubborn now. We know you feed from Sam, what’s the difference?”

“The difference is I’m in love with Sam.” They all stared at me, and I know they don’t understand. I drag a hand through my hair, not wanting to explain this to them. It just feels like I’m betraying something special between me and Sam. But, with all of their expectant eyes watching me, I don’t think I have a choice. “Look, when I feed . . . unless the intent is to kill or change someone, feeding is . . . intimate.”

“Oh.” Amanda’s eyes widened, and I knew she understood fully what I meant. “Oh. That’s why you and Sam . . . ” Her voice trailed off and she blushed.

“What?” Jenna looked from me to Amanda and back again. “Oh. Never mind.”

excerpt

“Rantings of an angry vampire”

I wonder. If I will myself to change, and attack Jenna for her incessant popping of her gum, it could be ruled as an animal attack. I could totally make it look like an animal attack. I would be quick; she wouldn’t feel a thing.

Rantings of an angry vampire. Maybe that’s what I should name my blog. Or memoir. Okay, so I’m cranky. Sue me. I have been sitting here for days waiting for Zac to wake up. All of my Hunters are here, except Sam who is working. They don’t need to be here, they just insist on it. Much to my dismay. Talking, tapping, singing, popping. Ugh!

“I need blood.”

Amanda’s eyes snapped up from one of my father’s journals she was reading. Her reaction to my thought surprised me, and told me it wasn’t a silent thought at all.

“Sorry,” I mumbled, lowering my gaze from hers.

“Don’t be, Ana. If you need . . . “

“I’m just irritable.” I looked pointedly at Jenna who popped her gum at me. “If you keep popping your gum, I will go all Chicago on you.”

Jenna’s face scrunched in confusion. “Huh?”

I couldn’t help but to roll my eyes. I know, childish, but come on! She’s so annoying! “Stop popping your gum. And get some culture.”

“Jenna,” Amanda interrupted Jenna’s comeback – which was bound to be bitchy, since we’re talking about Jenna. “Could you get Ana some blood?”

“Why can’t she get it herself?”

“Because I need to stay here with Zac,” I shot back. “You don’t need to be here.”

“He’s my friend, too!”

I am over 600 years old, and I’m arguing with what is essentially the ultimate ‘mean girl’. Sigh.

“I understand that, Jenna. However, I am technically Zac’s true Maker. When he wakes up, I need to be here.”

“Wouldn’t he want all of his friends here?” Jenna countered.

“Jenna, Ana isn’t just Zac’s friend. He will be bonded with her now.”

My boyfriend, Sam, chose the exact moment Amanda spoke of Zac’s bond with me to walk in. I noticed his step falter, and his eyes cloud over with an emotion I couldn’t read as he cleared it immediately. Fantastic. As if he wasn’t already weary of Zac’s feelings for me.

Jenna must have felt the change in the air, because she excused herself, mumbling about getting me blood – and popping her damn gum. The rest of my Hunters didn’t move to leave, but had enough decorum to at least look like they were busy doing other things on their smart phones or tablets.

“Any movement, call me back. I’ll be right outside,” I whispered to Amanda. She gave me a nod before glancing at her brother Sam. A look passed between them, and I wished then that I could read minds. With a sigh, I step outside the room with him.

“Hey.” He pulled me to him, kissing me chastely on the lips. It wasn’t his normal hello kiss, but he had just heard that Zac – who had confessed to being in love with me before he was turned by Thomas – would be bonded to me. I guess I couldn’t blame him.

“Hi. Tough case?”

Sam and I haven’t been able to spend much time together since that fateful night we went to kill Thomas and his army of Cursed Ones and Hybrids. He caught a big case, and since we were waiting for Zac to wake up before our search for Thomas started up, he had been spending a lot of time on his own investigation. If I hadn’t been so caught up with Zac, I’d probably think something was off between us.

“They’re all tough. I’m a homicide detective.”

Or, maybe there is something off between us.

“Sam . . . “

“He’ll be bonded to you?”

Sam’s voice was even, but the look in his eyes belied that calm. Was he worried that this bond with Zac would push us together?

“I cannot change that, Sam. Believe me, I would if I knew how.”

“What does this mean for you two?”

“It means . . . ” I made a frustrated noise that made Sam’s eyebrows quirk. “I do not know what it means. I have never been anyone’s Maker. At least, not by choice. If I knew how to be a Maker and use whatever that bond was, I would use it to find Thomas.” The idea gave me pause, and I momentarily forgot about what Sam and I were talking about. Could it be that easy? I may not have made Thomas myself, but it was my blood. I am his Maker.

“Ana?”

Sam brought my attention back to him.

“I am sorry. I was just thinking.”

Sam’s lips pulled into a grin. He stepped closer when I give him a questioning look.

“Your entire vocabulary changes when you’re thinking as Anala.”

“Does it?”

“Mmhmm.” Finally Sam wrapped his arms around me, without any of the stiffness or reluctance I had felt earlier. “It’s sexy.”

I snorted. Not exactly sexy, but it’s what happened.

“You just think my accent is sexy.”

He had told me before that along with my long, raven hair, translucent eyes and awesome body (his words, not mine), my English accent turns him on. I accused him of being biased, and insisted I didn’t have an accent. What can I say? I don’t always take compliments very well. Especially when they come from someone who looks like Sam.

“I think all of you is sexy,” he responded, touching my cheek softly. Thank God I can’t blush.

My response was to kiss him. And, not just a chaste kiss like he gave me before. I’ve missed this. I realize that if we had finished the job with Thomas, I wouldn’t be here. Or, shouldn’t be here. I had given Zac instructions to kill me after Thomas was dead. Things didn’t go quite as expected that night.

It’s been almost a week since then, and as I pushed my fingers through Sam’s wheat colored – and, oh so soft – hair, I couldn’t help but think about this being the first time Sam and I have actually had more than just a quick kiss.

“I miss you,” he whispered, echoing my thoughts.

“Are you off tonight?”

He sighed, pressing his forehead to mine. “No. I’ll be late.”

“I don’t care. Come to me when you’re done.”
