Kate Richards

Kate Richards divides her time between Los Angeles and the High Sierras. She would gladly spend all her days in the mountains, but she’d miss the beach…and her very supportive husband’s commute would be three hundred miles. Wherever she is, she loves to explore all different kinds of relationships in her stories. Chris Almeida and Cecilia Aubrey

Six years ago, our paths crossed in a most serendipitous way: through online role play. As funny as it may sound, we were “married/mated” by the group’s owner and from day one, we knew we just clicked. After a few months of writing some pretty hot fanfiction, we decided it was time to write about our own characters. Without a second thought, we embarked on this (crazy) joint writing adventure and Chris Almeida & Cecilia Aubrey were born. Since then, we have written 15 books in our Countermeasure Series (Romantic Suspense), and a novella in the A.W.E. Crew Series (Military Romance) published in Desiree Holt’s Omega Team Kindle World and plan to write our own brand of hot & spicy romance for many years to come. Deanndra Hall

Deanndra Hall writes stories in a world she knows well, with characters that are as fun, kinky, and crazy as she is. Although she’s an international bestselling author, she works and lives in far western Kentucky with her partner of 30+ years and three crazy little dogs. She’s written for business, industry, religious institutions, non-profits, and owned her own graphic design business, as well as working as a fiber and textile artist. Her personal best was 26,000 words in one day, but she advises against that – it took her the next three days to pry her swollen eyes open. When she’s not writing, she can be found working out at the local gym, hiking, kayaking, reading (of course), or working on a healthy recipe. And wherever she is, chocolate is sure to be nearby.

Melissa Keir

Melissa Keir has always wanted to be an author when she wasn’t hoping for a career as a race car driver. Melissa doesn’t believe in down time. She’s always keeping busy. Melissa is a wife and mother, an elementary school teacher, a book reviewer, owner of a publishing company as well as an author. Her home blends two families and is a lot like the Brady Bunch, without Alice. She loves to write stories that feature happy endings and is often seen plotting her next story.

Mia Koutras

Mia Koutras lives in the Greater Toronto Area with her wonderful husband and two amazing children. When she’s not educating students on the brilliant imagery and symbolism in Shakespeare’s great tragedies—while they not so covertly tap away on their cell phones to make plans for lunch and after school—she’s concocting story lines and character sketches in her head, just waiting for the moment to commit them to paper and hard drive. Deelylah Mullin

Deelylah Mullin began her writing journey as a child. Since Fourth Grade Writers’ Group, high school creative writing classes, and even more creative writing in college (the first time), she’s been working to hone her craft and tell her stories. Back in the day, those stories used to be horror. Now, they’re diverse in genre, but almost always with a romantic twist. She’s spent twenty-four years teaching high school and college English/composition courses, professionally edited since 2012, and is in semi-retirement to chase her own dreams.

M.A. Stone

M.A. Stone has had magical stories in her head, ever since she was a little girl devouring her favorite Stephen King or Laurell Hamilton novel; she figured if they could write up amazing stories about amazing people and places, well then so could she. She’s had three books published so far, a short story in a novella and is set to release books four and five in the next year. When’s she’s not arguing with her characters or figuring out storylines in the shower, she’s raising up her four AMAZING (and interesting ) children, binge watching stuff on Hulu, making blankets and trying to schedule date nights with the love of her life. Always, Cowboy by Allison Merritt

The past is better left behind, unless it offers a brighter future.

Brody Longtree’s first love was bull riding, but he loved beauty queen Libby Dempsey equally as hard. When she turned down his marriage proposal, everything from his rodeo career to his love life went to hell. His love ran too deep for blame, so he made the best of what life threw at him. Things finally get back on track…and then she almost runs over his dog.

When her pageant dreams died in an embarrassing display of nerves, Libby made a new, cowboy-free life for herself. One where she could train other girls who want to be pageant princesses. One that doesn’t give her any reason to dwell on what might have been with Brody until his dog bounds into her heart. And she bounds into Brody’s bed.

Despite the differences in their lives, they mesh together, the way Brody always knew they would. No matter what, he’s waiting until he’s certain Libby is ready to get married before he asks again, but their relationship comes under fire when one of her friends reveals a secret about a little girl Libby is awfully attached to—a girl who’s the right age to be Brody’s daughter.

Cowboys Don’t Cry by Vickie Taylor

A broken cowboy with nothing left to lose…except his heart.

Dash Connaway is hell-bent down a highway to nowhere. But he can’t outrun fate. Just a few months ago, he’d had a new album shooting up the country music charts, a luxury tour bus prepped for gigs in 39 cities, and a live-in girl friend he’d been thinking of asking to marry him. Now he’s just another drifter with an old guitar, a beat-up pickup, and a dog named Bill for a bed mate…until he meets Maggie McCain.

Maggie isn’t your ordinary Oregon rancher. She’s more into organic gardening and hand-spinning yarn from the fleece of her prized alpacas than breeding stinky old cattle. She’s a nurturer, a giver, so when Dash steps into her life from nowhere, she’s ready to trade in her solitary existence on the farm in favor of a husband to grow old with and a passel of children to care for.

But when she learns the real reason for Dash’s commitment to life on the road, she’s faced with a difficult choice and a lesson in the fallacy behind the old saying “Cowboys don’t cry.” Only time will tell just how potent the healing power of love can really be.

A Cowboy’s Heart by Leslie Garcia

Teenage lovers torn apart by betrayal. Have seventeen years changed everything—or nothing?

Star-crossed lovers in their south Texas hill country high school, torn apart by a best friend’s lie, a mother’s cold hatred, and a father’s lack of trust…

High school junior Illy Kingston turns to varsity football star and cowboy in training Gil Salas when her father, a Border Patrol agent, is killed under suspicious circumstances.

Their hormone-fueled, all or nothing affair ends when betrayal tears them apart.

Years, later, Illy returns home, at loose ends after her disastrous marriage to a reality show rock star ends with an embarrassing photo gone viral and a divorce.

When Gil and his mounted Border Patrol make an unannounced civic call at a local elementary school, Gil is shocked to see Illy lurking in the shadows, threatening to upend his existence once again.

The old passion still burns—but neither can go back to the innocence of their high school affair. Illy swore never to love a man wearing a uniform that didn’t involve jeans, a western hat, and boots. Gil has a price on his head.

And star-crossed love doesn’t usually work for cowboys, either.

Cowboy Trouble by Autumn Piper

She’s decided to make some bad choices this weekend.

Susie Howell has always done what her family expects of her, but they don’t know about the divorce papers she’s just signed, or the secret torch she carries for sexy ranch hand Cash. Autumn Piper

 Interview

It is my pleasure to welcome Autumn Piper to Room With Books!

Hi. Thanks so much for having me.

What do you do when you are not writing?

Well…when I’m not being the bookkeeper for my husband’s electrical contracting business, or being a mom, or freelance editing… I collect scrapbooking materials (and seriously, one day I will begin scrapbooking. I’m sure of it), of course I read (lots of Nora Roberts—almost a full-time job in and of itself, right?) and grow really big plants. The foliage and blooming kind, not the other really big, now-legal-in-Colorado plants.

Is there any particular author or book that influenced you in any way either growing up or as an adult?

My grandma introduced me to Phyllis Whitney and Jude Deveraux when I was young, and I totally fell for the romance in the Clan of the Cave Bear series, so those had a huge influence in what I love to read and write. But I also really enjoy Stephen King. His style, his characters, his worlds…and I gobble up any advice he gives on writing. Books, interviews, etc. I think he’s a genius.

Can you tell us about your challenges in getting your first book published?

Lord. I spent 3 years querying and submitting to agents and Big 6 publishers, before I discovered smaller presses. Now I take advantage of the better business deals with small presses and also have hybridized with indie publishing. It’s a much better world for authors today than it was 8 years ago!

If you could have any superpower what would you choose?

I’d love the power to “MUTE” somebody when they start saying something idiotic, or lying. Then maybe keep rewinding them until they say something appropriate… Kind of a combo of the magic in “Click” and “Groundhog Day”. Not that most normal people consider anything from those movies to be superheroic. Lol But hey. It’s my job to think outside the box.

What was your first job?

Nothing exciting there—I went to work at McDonald’s the day I turned 16. But since then I’ve had lots of jobs. Among the more interesting: Electrician, retail merchandiser for Hallmark (yes, I was the card lady who straightened out all those glittery greetings, lol, and I can grab the right size envelope for any card with my eyes closed), and Teacher Stunt Double (aka substitute teacher). I still sub at a preschool now and then and it’s always an adventure.

Out of all of your characters, which is your favorite?

Kiersten Day, the heroine in Lone Star Trouble. (We’re at her wedding in the opening of Cowboy Trouble.) Kiersten is a real spitfire, totally capable of taking care of herself and those she loves. She’s got an attitude and isn’t afraid to use it. So the hardest thing she’s ever had to do is admitting she needs Cleve—son of her sworn enemy.

What does your writing schedule look like?

Well, honestly, there’ve been times when I wished it looked something like this scene (language warning, f-bombs dropped): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIqq9GusbSQ

Alas, though, I’m not that mean, or that good at claiming my time as private. So it varies, greatly.

Do you use your OWN experiences?

I have used locations, names of places, and I’ve used people I know or meet as characters—especially “bad” characters. But otherwise, no. Purely manufactured.

Was it easy to pick the title for your book?

I’m the world’s worst at choosing titles. But this time it was easy. I’m sticking with a “trouble” theme in all my books for now, and for this boxed set we all had “cowboy” in our title. Thus… Cowboy Trouble.

If you could pick one profession other than author, what would it be? Why does it appeal to you?

I choose… Ellen Degeneres. She gets to make people happy every day. What could be better?

What are you currently working on?

Oh! Oh! We’re working on a follow-up for Cowboy Up, so I’m dreaming up my contribution.

FUN FACTS:

What is your favorite flavor of ice cream? Daiquiri Ice, from Baskin Robbins

Night owl, or early bird? Neither. I need my sleep.

Coffee or tea? Tea.

Roller Coasters or Water Rides? Both.

Swimming in the ocean or a pool? Ocean.

Walking or fitness club? Walking.

Any last words?
