Fate AccompliAegean Lovers # 1

By: M.M. Jaye
Released November 21st, 2014

Monica Mitchell flies all the way from Boston to Athens, Greece, not to get a tan but a very specific job. Because besides an MBA, this twenty-four-year old has a mission: to prove to Alex Argiros, the gorgeous Greek magnate, that she has now grown out of the habit of flashing her underwear and looking like a zombie flick castoff … in the presence of hundreds.

The catch? She has to hide who she is. Thankfully, not having seen him since her early teens helps, and soon she gets all she wants and so much more. Not only does Alex not connect his highly qualified new assistant to the disaster magnate of his distant past, but apart from his admiration, he also offers her his heart.

Now, Monica has a new mission: to keep it forever. But first she has to come clean before he finds out her connection to the bane of his existence. Because if he does, he’ll rightfully assume she plays the part of the Trojan Horse, and then he’ll shed the sleek businessman exterior, letting his hot-blooded Greek nature take over.

She knows he could destroy her.

She knows, yet she needs just a little longer to savor his searing kisses…

It is my pleasure to welcome MM Jaye, author of Fate Accompli, to Room With Books today.

Hi Maria, thank you for agreeing to this interview. Please tell us a little about yourself and your background.

I’m Maria Messini, penning under MM Jaye, a bilingual Greek native. I’m a certified translator and have been teaching the art of translation for over fifteen years. Writing was my idea of therapy when, back in 2009, my spirits had temporarily nosedived. Fate Accompli  is my debut contemporary romance, the first book in the Aegean Lovers series, available in two heat versions: Clean & Spicy.

What were you like at school?

I started off as over-the-top brilliant but that lasted until I was about ten. Then, I was just a good student. I was the quiet type, hugely popular among the unpopular bunch. Yeah, I don’t miss school.

Were you good at English?

English is my second language, but I love it and work on it incessantly. I always aced my English exams.

What are your ambitions for your writing career?

I keep working on my craft, and I still feel weird calling myself an author, but I know I’m a very good storyteller. I want people to read and enjoy my stories. Now, if I end up making some money in the process, that’ll be great. But my greatest ambition is for readers to finish my book and have a warm fuzzy feeling of contentment lingering. I want my HEAs to make my readers smile.

Which writers inspire you?

One of my favorite writers is Anne Tyler. What she inspired is the power of simplicity. You can say so much in just a few words. I can’t say I’m entirely there, but I’m working on it. In terms of writing romance, I love Ruthie Knox and her complex, less-than-perfect characters. But I’m into discovering new, indie writers who set trends, connecting with them and exchange ideas.

Give us an insight into your main character. What does he/she do that is so special?

At 24, Monica, the heroine of Fate Accompli, is academically accomplished and could start her career anywhere, but she flies all the way to Greece to work for a specific company. Even though she’s a put-together adult, she’s so hung up in gaining Alex’s validation, she feels emotionally stunted. You see, she craved his approval ever since she was a little girl, but all she managed to do was make a fool out of herself in his presence. Having a despot for a stepfather and a doormat for a mother, made her latch on to Alex and never really let go. Only now, the feelings run a lot deeper and affect her on a physical level as well.

What are you working on at the minute?

Fate Captured. This is a novella, part of the Aegean Lovers series, which works as a prequel to Fate Accompli, as it is the story of Trish, Monica’s friend, who came to Athens two weeks before Monica. The two books can be read as standalones.

Which actor/actress would you like to see playing the lead character from your most recent book?

Monica is a redhead with a tendency to make a mess of things. I think Emma Stone would make a perfect Monica. As for Alex, a brooding Ryan Reynolds would do just fine. He’s got the right bod…

What made you decide to sit down and actually start something?

In 2009, I suffered a miscarriage after a successful IVF. I wasn’t in a good place. It was a “diversify or die” situation, and as I had even lost touch with my femininity, I deliberately started writing a sexy story thinking that if I make my heroine express herself physically, it would help. Oh boy… it did! That’s how Fate Accompli was conceived.

Do you have a special time to write or how is your day structured?

That’s my biggest problem. Now, my life is graced with the presence of a very demanding four-year-old with some mild developmental issues that make her act like little Hitler. I also work and run the house, and by the time she goes to bed, I’m usually capable of only updating my social media accounts and answering my emails. I struggle to find time and energy to write, but having connected with many writers through my author platform building, I have found that writing when you’re a working mom of a toddler is indeed a very difficult task.

Tell us about the cover/s and how it/they came about.

Yay! I’m a cover junkie, and I wrote an entire article on how I conceived my covers. I searched stockphoto sites, bought the rights to some photos and then outsourced the designing part to a professional designer. If your readers are interested in the entire process, here’s my article: http://bit.ly/1BkFyuz

Do you have a trailer or do you intend to create one for your book?

I do have a trailer, and I even narrated it myself. I’m really really proud of it.  Here it is!

A big thank you for picking up Fate Accompli’s virtual tour organized by the awesome Tasty Book Tours. Greetings from Greece to you and your readers!

Thank you very much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to take part in this interview.

MM Jaye’s mother claims that she spoke her first word at the age of six. Months. As a kid she would record fairytales in her own voice, play them back and then re-record adjusting the pitch and tempo. Later, she used her voice to inspire young adults and teach them the art of translation. But there came a time when life took a turn for the worse, and her voice temporarily died out. That’s when she turned to writing.

Fate Accompli is the first book in her Aegean Lovers series, set on the Greek island where her husband proposed. MM Jaye lives in Athens, Greece, with her husband, daughter and Kindle. Yes, it’s that important.

Excerpt

“Now take out the tart. Let’s dig our teeth into that sin of a dough.” Jenny’s breathing was shallow.

Monica frowned.

“We can’t have a picnic on the desk when they are in there,” she whispered. “What if they suddenly come out?”

“Trust me. These meetings never last less than three hours and they’ve only been in there for one.”

“What about the smell? It’s quite heavy!”

“Heavier than Terzakis’ cigar? Please! By the stink of it he must have offered one the other two. They wouldn’t know if we boiled broccoli out here. Now bring it on,” Jenny rasped, breathing hard with anticipation.

“Okay. I’ve got it!” Monica said in a conspiratorial tone and knelt behind the desk. “Come down here. I’ll give you a piece and if we hear them come out, we’ll pretend we lost one of your contacts.”

“You’re a total nerd, you know that?” Jenny crouched beside Monica and there was more giggling. Monica felt like a naughty schoolgirl, which was quite foreign to her. But she couldn’t let Jenny down. Not after finding out she was expecting.

She opened the bottom drawer and took out a flat plastic container. Just by lifting the tight lid Jenny gasped. “Ooh, it smells so good.” Fishing out a large yellow napkin from her handbag, she handed her a piece of tart on it. Jenny took a huge bite and immediately moaned. “Oh, Monica, that’s orgasmic!”

Monica opened her mouth to respond, but she was cut short by a deep masculine voice. “When you finish giving each other orgasms, can I have the Latin America folder, please?”

Jenny froze mid-bite.

Monica whipped her head around and looked between the desk’s legs. There were more legs. Human legs. In crisp pants. And leather shoes. Alex’s shoes.

Oh crap!

She rose very slowly and raised her eyes until she met his. Taking in as much air as her lungs permitted, she blurted out—what else?—the plain truth.

“Jenny’s pregnant. And famished. I made a pie—”

“Tart!” Jenny piped in.

Monica’s eyes popped wide just as Alex’s narrowed. “Jenny craved the … tart. I thought we shouldn’t eat the tart on the desk. So we ate it under … it. Jenny liked the tart.” She gulped. “A lot, apparently. Hence the … um … orgasmic comment.” There. She’d said it. She hadn’t intended it to sound like a nursery rhyme—and did she have to use the word tart so many times? And in the same sentence with orgasmic?

Alex’s expression was inscrutable. He looked down at Jenny then back at Monica. “Can I have the Latin America file, please?” His tone was exactly the same as if nothing she’d said had registered. She only wished it were so.

Handing him a red folder this time, she felt like swallowing again, but her throat felt as dry as parched paper.

“The meeting will be over soon. Can you make sure you have satisfied your … tart cravings by then?” He angled a glance down at crouching Jenny, who managed an awkward full-mouthed smile.

“Of course,” Monica replied mechanically, then inwardly winced as she understood the double entendre of his choice of words.

Alex made a move to turn, then changed his mind and paused facing the wall.

“And congratulations … about the baby,” he said—to the wall apparently— then walked into his office.
