Q & A With The Author:

Please, tell us a story. It can be long or short. From your childhood or last week. Funny, sad, or somewhere in between. Just make sure it’s yours. What’s your story?

Sometimes doing a favor for someone can cause you a tremendous amount of trauma. Years ago, my parents stored an old rug for my uncle. He was in the process of moving, but I guess at the time, he wasn’t able to transport it to his new place and needed a place to keep it until he could pick it up. That weekend he dropped it off on our front porch but once the evening came, my parents brought it in the house to keep it from getting rained on overnight. The next morning came and we were back in our normal routine of getting ready for the day.

That morning I was in the middle of getting ready for school and I had taken a seat on the floor in my mom’s room to put on my shoes. I was getting myself together while my mom was preparing breakfast. As I sat on the floor, I put on one shoe and as I stretched out my leg, my foot hit my mother’s bag leaning against the dresser. In the blink of an eye, from behind the bag, popped a huge woolly spider that proceeded to take a seat on my leg. Before I could scream or form any words or sounds, he scurried away and I had no idea where he went. The next thing I remember was standing up and finally being able to pull in enough air to scream. I was frozen in the middle of my mom’s room with one shoe on and no idea where the spider was. I could hear my mom running through the hallway to come to my rescue, but I was too afraid to move. She was asking what was wrong, but I couldn’t answer her. I couldn’t do anything. Fear had frozen me in place and I could feel tears starting to flow out of my eyes. I had no idea where the spider was and I just knew I was going to die.

Luckily, my mom is not the type to freeze in a dire situation. As I stood there wondering exactly where the spider was, I didn’t have to wait long. I felt the whoosh of my mom’s hand slide across the back of my neck and heard a thump as the spider landed in the middle of the floor. She quickly took care of the spider and I had never been so happy to see my mom in my life. She later admitted she acted out of pure adrenaline. When she came into the room, she said the only thing she could see was this woolly insect sprawled across the back of my neck and she went into protection mode. It was the most traumatic event I’d ever experienced and to this day I am deathly afraid of spiders.

In reflection, my parents believe the spider had taken up residence in the rolled up rug and had decided to venture out into our home overnight. Needless to say, we never kept another rug for anyone ever again.

Loving the Book Christmas Blitz Day 7 – Unwrap the Romance @5PrincePub

Unwrap the Romance

5 amazing authors from 5 Prince Publishing have come together
to make this wonderful Anthology. Let’s get to know them.

Romance author by night, pharmacist by day, Amy Gale loves rock music and the feel of sand between her toes.  She attended Wilkes University where she graduated with a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. In addition to writing, she enjoys baking, scary movies, rock concerts, and reading books at the beach.  She lives in the lush forest of Northeastern Pennsylvania with her husband, six cats, and golden retriever.

Bernadette Marie has been an avid writer since the early age of 13, when she’d fill notebook after notebook with stories that she’d share with her friends.  Her journey into novel writing started the summer before eighth grade when her father gave her an old typewriter.  At all times of the day and night you would find her on the back porch penning her first work, which she would continue to write for the next 22 years.

In 2007 – after marriage, filling her chronic entrepreneurial needs, and having five children – Bernadette began to write seriously with the goal of being published.  That year she wrote 12 books.  In 2009  she was contracted for her first trilogy and the published author was born.  In 2011 she (being the entrepreneur that she is) opened her own publishing house, 5 Prince Publishing, and has released contemporary titles and has begun the process of taking on other authors in other genres.

Bernadette spends most of her free time driving her kids to their many events.  She is also an accomplished martial artist, working her way to her second degree black belt in Tang Soo Do.  An avid reader she loves to meet readers who enjoy reading contemporary romances and she always promises Happily Ever After.

Jessica Dall finished her first novel at age 15 and been writing ever since. She is the author of such novels as Grey Areas and The Bleeding Crowd, the Broken Line Series, and a number of short stories which have appeared in both literary magazines and anthologies. When not writing, she works as a freelance editor and creative writing teacher in Washington, DC.

Railyn Stone hails from the TarHeel State and is a romantic at heart. She believes you can find romance in the simplest aspects of life and enjoys letting her imagination run wild. Trying new restaurants, listening to music, playing golf and writing over the top stories about ordinary people are the hobbies she cherishes most.

Lisa is happily married to her soul-mate and they have a daughter and two crazy dogs. She especially enjoys being creative and now writes almost full time.

In 2012 Lisa and her family relocated from England to their beloved Scotland; a place of happy holidays and memories for them. Her new location now features in all of her books.

Writing has always been something Lisa has enjoyed, although in the past it has centered on poetry and song lyrics. Some of which appear in her stories.

Since she started writing in 2012 she has loved every minute of becoming a published author.

Susan Lohrer grew up all over western Canada and lives in BC with her husband, their two children who are still at home, three dogs, and far too many aquariums. She believes life is always better with a healthy dose of humor.

Author Q&A
What is your favorite part of writing?
Seeing the characters’ reactions to life’s big moments.
Is there a message in your novel that you want readers to grasp?
The importance of family and friendship.
Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
It was one of those little cards in the mail for a correspondence writing class for children’s literature. I thought, “I can do that.” Except my characters always morphed into grown-ups and fell in love, so it turned out that romance was my genre.
Give us an insight into how your writing day/time is structured?
I write during my lunch hour at work.
Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?
There are as many different ways of dealing with difficult situations as there are people.
What is the thing you struggle with the most while writing? And how do you defeat it?
I struggle with getting a good daily word count because my internal editor demands I go over and over what I’ve written before moving on. It definitely makes me a slow writer. To get past that, I try to take the advice of my publisher and give myself permission to spew whatever comes out (and really, that’s where the really good parts come from). Probably the thing that helps most is a deadline—I write much faster under pressure.

“Hey, come back to the here and now. Sloane come on, we have to focus. Are you going to be able to do this?” Liyah snapped her fingers in front of Sloane to get her attention. “Sloane? Sloane?”

“Oh, Liyah, I’m sorry. What were you saying?” Just as Liyah was about to answer her, she quieted and Sloane followed her gaze toward the door where her unbelievably handsome ex-fiancé stood.

“Santo cielo.” Liyah breathed and stood straighter, adjusting her jacket.

“He’s just a man in a suit,” Sloane said, trying to convince herself more than Liyah that he was just a man in a suit. She busied herself by stacking and reorganizing an already organized stack of papers. She could feel one single bead of sweat slowly meander its way down her back. But Gates’ magnetic pull soon had her staring at his deep-set hazel orbs. She tried to look away, but there was something about this man who was able to suck her in like cake flour through a sieve.

“He is so not just a man in a suit.” Liyah swallowed hard, shaking her head at Sloane’s dismissal of him. “I’m beginning to understand why you’re so nervous about this. Wow. You know, I didn’t realize how much Brayden looks like him.”

“Shh, keep your voice down.” Sloane tried to move, to blink, to do anything, but her body betrayed her wishes and she could only stare as Gates mingled through the room before he stopped near the two of them. She felt the individual hairs on her neck called to attention as his deep voice rumbled over her.

“Liyah, hello. It’s been a while. Sloane.” Finally regaining her faculties Sloane pulled herself up to her full height of 5 feet 6 inches and smiled. The unmistakable maleness of him filled her senses as she looked into those familiar eyes. Prickly chills scampered up her spine as she stood face to face with the father of her baby boy.

“Hi, Gates.” Liyah interjected, trying to break the obvious awkwardness.

“Gates, it’s good to see you again.” Sloane stammered while inwardly cowering under his intense gaze.

“Is it really?” Smirking, Gates continued past her to meet and shake hands with a few of the representatives from the various companies with bids on the table.

“Okay, so that went well.” Both ladies turned to watch him weave through the crowd of people as he headed towards the front of the room before Liyah turned to Sloane. “You up for this?”

“I don’t have much choice, do I? I guess he really does hate me.” Sloane swallowed the big lump of nerves in her throat and tried to pull herself together for what she knew was going to be the fight of her life. She and Liyah took their seats as the meeting got underway and she was never so glad to sit down. Her legs felt weak and her stomach was queasy. If it weren’t for the fact she hadn’t been with anyone since Gates, she would have sworn she was experiencing morning sickness all over again.

“Maybe not so much hate, as maybe severe dislike.”
