“What is that?” he interrupted.

“What’s what?” she questioned looking around.

“That thing on your plate,” his voice was groggy. A deep scratching that somehow appealed to her.

“It’s a cronut.”

“A what?”

“A cronut. You know; part croissant, part donut; the perfect combination of flaky and sweet,” she laughed.

by Rick Chiantaretto

Death of the Spirit *Crossing Death #2*
Genre~Dark Fantasy/Occult
About the Book

I have no idea who I am anymore.

In Los Angeles, I would have given anything to go home to Orenda, my world where magic was alive and nature spoke to me. Now that I’m back I feel out of place, burdened with responsibility. The human part of me misses the simplicity of Earth, the mage part begs for connection with magic, and the demon part? I don’t want to admit that exists.

As the darkness inside me grows, I’ll learn to sacrifice for the greater good, as my people have always done. In order to save my family (both mage and human alike), I must face my nightmare, embrace the demon, and descend into the shadowy world of my enemy—the Hell of the Damned.

Once there, I will have nothing left to fear but myself: Edmund Gavel, human, mage, demon… maybe monster.

Book Review
It is a pleasure to have the opportunity to read and review Death of the Spirit by Rick ChiantarettoDeath of the Spirit is the second book in the Crossing Death Series. I found it most necessary to read book one, Death of the Body, to understand the progression of events through Death of the Spirit.

Mr. Chiantaretto is a master of the dark suspense.

His characters are well developed and the worlds that they inhabit are filled with details that only a master could supply. My attention is sometimes difficult to hold when making my way through several volumes, but with the Crossing Death series, and especially Death of the Spirit I found myself unwilling to put the books down and lost sleep during the days that I was focused on what would happen next!
Mr. Chiantaretto has a fangirl for life and I know that the next volume(s) will be as eloquently penned as his current works are.
I definitely recommend Death of the Spirit by Rick Chiantaretto, and Death of the Body as well, as give five dark and powerful cups of Room With Books coffee.
Don’t wait to pick up a copy. Stop what you are doing and get Death of the Body and Death of the Spirit and you’ll be hooked as well!

About the Book

I grew up in a world of magic. By the time I was ten I understood nature, talked to the trees, and listened to the wind. When the kingdom of men conquered my town, I was murdered by one of my own—the betrayer of my kind. But I didn’t stay dead.

I woke to find myself in a strange new world called Los Angeles. The only keys to the life I remembered were my father’s ring, my unique abilities, and the onslaught of demons that seemed hell-bent on finding me. Now I must find out who I really am, protect my friends, and get back to my beloved hometown of Orenda.

About the Author

I’ve often been accused of having done more in my life than the average person my age but if I were completely honest, I’d have to tell you my secret: I’m really 392. So after all this time, I’m a pretty crappy writer. I have two books published and a bunch half written (when you have eternity, where’s the reason to rush?). I’ve been favorably reviewed by horror greats like Nancy Kilpatrick, and my how-to-write-horror articles have been quoted in scholarly (aka community college freshmen’s) papers. I enjoy the occasional Bloody Mary, although a Bloody Kathy or Susan will suffice.Mostly, I just try to keep a low profile so people don’t figure out who I REALLY am.

Lost Desires is a quick read but packed with fascinating interaction between Ian and Brittney, whose love life has fizzled, and a hands-on sex therapist recommended by a Brittney’s best friend. Although graphic in nature, Ms. Orman has tastefully written the scenes.

The story moves quickly from beginning to end and I would like to see more of the details between Ian and Brittney’s sessions with John, not necessarily their therapy time. This is my only disappointment with Lost Desires.

I recommend Lost Desires if you are looking for a fast-paced evening read.
