Texas Two Step Excerpt Tour
Texas Two Step
by Jody Vitek
You first met Chad Rogers and Chloe Atwood in Florida Heat, now you get to read their story.
Old family ties broken, childhood pain healed and true love revealed—one step at a time.
One phone call sends Chad Rogers back to the one place he’s been avoiding—home. Being at his mother’s side after she is shot, he faces the younger brother who tormented him during childhood and his ex-lover, Chloe Atwood.
Chloe Atwood is engaged to a family friend. Chad Rogers steps back into her world, spinning it off its axis. She sees him in a new light this time around, leaving her to question if they can have a future together.
“I made us Mojitos.” Her mother handed her the drink before sitting at the patio table. “You seem to be a little on edge. Is everything okay?”
Chloe took a long slow sip of her drink. “I’ll be fine after drinking this. It’s just been stressful with the shooting at the shelter and the past weekend full of events.”
“How was the fundraiser?”
“Very successful, considering a big donation for the auction fell through. But Chad, Trent and Maggie put together an awesome package that raised an amazing amount.” The Mojito hit the spot as she swallowed.
“That was generous of them.”
“Here are my two lovely ladies,” her father said, opening the patio door.
Her mother immediately stood, greeting her father with a kiss. “I’ll be right back with your drink, Dear. Dinner should be ready in fifteen minutes.”
“So,” her father took the chair her mother left. “I hear you need to talk to us. Andrew’s not here, so I’m guessing you’re not announcing you’re pregnant.”
“Dad! No! I don’t want kids yet.” At least not with Andrew. “How’s work? The shelter didn’t get the grant. I read the email on Saturday.”
“I’m sorry. I would’ve voted for you if I could’ve.”
“Thank you, Dad. If we don’t apply, we can’t get the grant monies. There are others out there. I was just telling Mom about the fundraiser and how well we did. The money raised will help the women and children who need the safety the shelter offers.”
“Safety? I thought there was a shooting there not too long ago? Maybe you should think about a new line of work. Or don’t work at all. Andrew can support the two of you once you’re married.”
She gawked in disbelief. Adrenaline coursed through her veins as she wanted to raise her voice. This was no longer an issue. Her jaw clenched tight. Andrew wasn’t a part of her life.
“I need to use the bathroom before dinner.” Chloe snatched her drink from the table, making it slosh within its confinds. She stalked into the house. There her mother, Susie Homemaker, prepared their meal—the picture of who her father thought she should become. No way in hell!
Born and raised in Minnesota, Jody has remained close to home living with her husband of twenty plus years, three children and a cat named Holly. Growing up, she enjoyed reading V.C. Andrews’ the Dollanganger series, starting with Flowers in the Attic, S.E. Hinton, and Stephen King to name a few. Today her tastes run across the board in fiction and non-fiction, in all genres.
She has traveled throughout the United States, to the Bahamas and Cancun, Mexico. Between watching her son’s soccer games, maintaining one of the many scrapbook albums, gardening and being the COO of the Vitek household, she writes contemporary romances.
