GENRE: Contemporary Romance
Four years after losing her husband, Elizabeth Farefield’s mother-in-law still blames her for his death. Finding it difficult to move forward, she takes a Caribbean cruise to contemplate her future…bumping into the past.
Divorced for five years, Robert Burnhamwood is happy with his playboy ways until on a cruise, a chance meeting has him longing for something he hasn’t wanted since his first marriage…a monogamous relationship filled with love.
But when Robert’s youngest daughter retaliates against his new relationship, his oldest daughter takes up with a man against his wishes, and a rapist terrorizes her neighborhood putting his daughter at risk, a peaceful future with new found love may be beyond Elizabeth’s grasp.
She wasn’t dead. She’d read the signs correctly.
Being away from her children, and mother-in-law, gave her a freedom to be with those she wanted and do as she pleased. Robert was attractive, nice, caring, so why not have some fun while she was away?
“What’s got you so quiet?”
“Hmm? Oh, sorry. I get lost in the stars.” She let her hands slide, spreading her arms wide, across the smooth wood railing. “This is amazing compared to back home.” Her hips pressed against the rail as she leaned forward. What if she had too much fun while away? Would she be okay returning home? She needed to pull up her big girl panties, take a chance, and enjoy herself.
Robert’s arm slid across her lower back and she jumped. “Careful.” They gazed at each other. “I wouldn’t want to see you fall overboard.” He held her a little tighter—up close and personal.
“I wasn’t going anywhere.” With her hands centered in front of her, she turned into his chest, chin down. “I like where I’m at.” She dared a glance into his eyes, the yellow-green was striking in the moonlight.
“Where is that, Liz?” His soft voice had a husky sound. A finger lifted her chin to look him fully in the eyes.
Pulled into a tighter embrace, he bent and delivered a diminutive kiss. “With me?”
This time the kiss grew passionate. His hand glided to the back of her neck, as his fingers spliced through her hair. He stopped.

It is my pleasure to read and review Up Close and Personal by Jody Vitek.
I’m pleased when a book captures me early and keeps my attention until the end and Up Close and Personal certainly did that. There are multiple plot lines to follow and enough action that kept me from wanting to put this book down!
Ms. Vitek writes very likable characters that seem very real in most of their emotional reactions. The settings described were lovely and the angst of the kids was overblown but very realistic.
This was an easy book to read and didn’t take me very long at all.
I wasn’t terribly thrilled with the tie-in of a university rapist but that had it’s place as well.
I highly recommend Up Close and Personal by Jody Vitek and give it four steaming hot cups of Room With Books coffee.
